On this page you will find information regarding what every senior citizen should know about senior living resources in San Diego and what a great city San Diego can be for the retiree. You will also have access to links to websites with information on many diverse areas of senior living as well as answers to many questions you might have.
What is senior living? What does it means to be a senior citizen? There are many categories to consider when it comes to senior living. For instance, you might start by asking yourself, what is best for my specific situation? Which quality of life will allow me to function with ease as I mature? Today’s seniors are very active: walking, hiking, yoga, swimming, reconnecting with friends and striving to lead a use full, while maintaining a certain financial equalibrium.

Knowing where to start. Currently there are six living generations: The G.I. Generation which comprise people born between 1901 and 1924. This group comprises about 1.5% of the population, The Silent Generation were born between the years 1925 to 1945 and comprise about 11.4% of the population, The Baby Boomers who were born between 1946 and 1965, about 24.6% of the population, The Generation X comprise 16% of the population which were born between 1956 and 1976, The Millennial Generation are currently the largest segment at 24.8% and were born between 1977 and 1995, The Generation Z were born between 1995 and 2015 are 21.4% of the population. If we are to focus on the generations that pertain to this page they would be the G.I. Generation, Silent Generation and Baby Boomers. Where would you place yourself?

The following questions may help you understand your needs. How active are you? Do I want to age in place? If you downsize and move is it transitional? What are the ten things you want or do not want to do when I retire? What dreams and goals do you want to follow? Which recreation activities or hobbies do you want to continue or learn more about? How involved do you want to be with family and friends once you retire? Once you have assessed your needs and wants, how do you accomplish them? San Diego is unique as a city: on the bay/ocean with miles of coast line, mountains, Anza Borrego Desert, lakes and Public Parks. World class attractions: Sea world, the San Diego Zoo, the Wild animal park, the Birch aquarium, little Italy, Wineries, sports fishing, Microbreweries and the world famous Balboa park. All are easily accessible using your own personal vehicle, public transportation system or senior services providers.
There are also great tax benefits in retiring in San Diego: Prop 60/90, which allows property tax transfer and Prop 13 which limits property tax increase. However you will need to consult your accountant for further information.
